This bridal "tateya" obi style is very large in size compared to what is often seen today. A couple of decades ago, this size was the norm. Old maru-obi are very luxurious and expensive; thus heavy, stiff and inflexible. Obi styles were therefore much simpler and attention was given to showing off as much of the surface as possible.
